Earlier this week I read about the recall of the first printing of All-Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder #10. The reason: the black bars superimposed on the dialogue to censor profanity weren't dark enough, and the dirty words were still visible. Frank Miller had insisted that the censored words be lettered in full, then covered by the black bars. Miller also reportedly demanded a brandy glass filled with red M&Ms and an ivory keyboard for his computer, or he was walking.
DC ordered comic stores who had already received the recalled issue to pull it immediately and destroy all copies. So, of course, I was able to find scans of a few of the offending pages in a few seconds.
Rich Johnson has scans of two pages posted on his Lying in the Gutters blog at Comic Book Resources. Check it out here.
My favorite line is from the first page, where one of the dealers Batgirl has crossed shouts at his buddy, “FUCK you twice, DICKWAD, you let a FUCKing little piece of jailbait ASS steal your wheels . . .”
Poetry. And people say Frank Miller has lost his touch.
