Sometimes you hear something at the right time, in just the right context, and it’s the funniest thing you’ve ever heard. A few minutes ago I turned on the television and flipped past one of those ubiquitous prison documentaries they show on MSNBC on the weekends. There was an inmate talking about how he had met a woman from the outside who came in to visit him and had become the love of his life. After he was done talking, a title came up on the screen to inform us of what this guy had done to wind up in prison.
He had been convicted and sentenced to life on a charge of aggravated murder.
I find that absolutely fucking hysterical. What the hell is “aggravated murder”? Did he give the guy a kick in the ribs after he shot him? Is that really that much worse?
Just struck me, for some reason.
Hey, know what else I thought? If they make a film about Ted Kennedy, there’s only one fat-headed, whiskery Irish thespian up to the task. And that thespian, my friends, is Philip Seymour Hoffman.
