The tape that came with my Fisher Price Tape Recorder

YouTuber shairaptor made my day recently by uploading a copy of “Discover a World of Sounds,” the program on side A of the tape that came with the little brown Fisher Price tape recorder I got for my birthday when I was maybe five or six years old. I cannot tell you how many hours of fun and creativity I got out of that simple machine. How many tapes I filled with music, interviews and conversations with my family and friends, and the sounds of TV shows and movies I loved . . . shit, I can no longer remember. A bunch.

The included tape featured a program designed to show you how to use the tape recorder, and give you ideas for what to do with it. It is one of the truly wonderful memories of my childhood, and I was thrilled to rediscover it and be able to share it with all of you. Maybe you had one of these as a kid, too.

I had one of those things too. I think I used it until it was so badly magnetized it actually erased tapes. That may be an exaggeration, but it's a small one.

The craziest thing is, I was just thinking about this very tape a few days ago, specifically the huge build-up to Chopsticks. Strange how those things happen.
