A tornado struck a Boy Scout campground in Iowa yesterday, killing 4 scouts and injuring 48. This is a horrific tragedy, doubly so for anyone who was there or had loved ones caught up in the tragedy. And yet it compels me to wonder, how do people who believe that God is directly responsible for natural disasters account for this? If God flooded New Orleans because of all that homosexuality and jazz, and regularly inflicts fires and quakes on California, that cesspool, why did he turn his holy and benevolent ire on the Boy Scouts of America in the heartland of the U.S.A., his favorite country?
It seems like the scouts did everything right. They pushed God on the kids, they shunned the gays, they even segregated the boys from the girls, because God help us if little boys ever learned to cook, or little girls ever learned to build a fire. What was God’s beef?
I don’t understand it. Maybe God became alarmed at the number of old ladies crossing the gold-paved streets of Heaven unaided, and decided to call up some help.
