John McCain's embarassing secret . . .
Saturday, August 2nd, 2008 | 05:55 pm [barack obama, humor, politics]
John McCain says his family and staff are giving him a crash course on the internet, so he'll be able to utilize this strange new technology should he win the election in November.  I don't hold McCain's lack of tech cred against him.  Much as I love Obama, the prospect of a president wandering around obliviously lost in his Blackberry is a little sad.  At least his aides insist he never uses emoticons.  Thank Christ for that.

Still, with McCain just learning the ropes on the web, it's not surprising that he started to wander, wound up at a certain photo rating site, and, with no one else looking, committed an act of devastating honesty that, if made public, could permanently derail his presidential aspirations:

Don't worry, John.  Your secret's safe.  Nobody ever comes here.

Steve is a fag too. Only a fucking fairy would label Obama the thief "hot".

Well . . . the point of the entry was that John McCain was supposedly rating Barack a 10, not me.

But since we're on the subject, sure, I think Barack's kinda dreamy. Not a bad lookin' dude. And confident. Confidence is sexy. Don't we heterosexual guys find confidence women attractive? There's nothing wrong with observing the same thing about another dude.

You're sorta loathsome, you know.

Only "sorta"?

Good point, Var.

Hey, Anonymous Homophobic Bigot: You're extremely fucking loathsome.

How do you know he is "homophobic"?
Tuesday, August 5th, 2008 | 01:46 am (UTC)
The same way I'd know he was a racist if he'd called me a nigger-lover.
Tuesday, August 5th, 2008 | 10:57 am (UTC)
Did he tell you he was scared of homosexuals?
Tuesday, August 5th, 2008 | 03:10 pm (UTC)
Ten years ago that might have been mildly clever, but now it's just tired.

"Homophobia" isn't an actual clinically diagnosed fear of gay people. It's popularly used (as you well know) to describe bigotry and discrimination against homosexuals. This person responded to my humorous suggestion that John McCain would rate Barack Obama a 10 on Hot or Not by calling me a fag and a fucking fairy. Ergo, I conclude this person is a homophobe.

What a stupid hair to split.

You still have yet to prove how he has a fear of homosexuals.
Tuesday, August 5th, 2008 | 09:28 pm (UTC)
. . .

I'm not trying to prove he has a fear of homosexuals. I didn't accuse him of being afraid of gay people. I accused him of being bigoted against gay people, because he demonstrated that bigotry quite clearly.

Got it? Do you understand the difference between my actual intention and your willful misinterpretation of it?

So, you didn't say he was homophobic?

I'm just going to assume from this point forward that you aren't being willfully ignorant, and that you actually are as much of a fucking moron as you seem to be. I think that will make things go much, much smoother.

Okay. As I said in my reply to your initial comment, "homophobia" does not refer to an actual phobia, like arachnophobia or glossophobia or necrophobia or many other -phobias. The etymology of the word does not determine its definition or usage — the word derives from the greek phobia, meaning "fear," and homo, meaning "same," so literally translated the word means "fear of the same," not "fear of homosexuals."

Homo does not indicate homosexuality; it indicates sameness. You fucking cretin. Do you understand me so far?

Now . . . the American Heritage Dictionary defines "homophobia" like this:

1. Fear of or contempt for lesbians and gay men. 2. Behavior based on such a feeling.

Let's also look at the definition for a similarly constructed word, "xenophobe":

A person unduly fearful or contemptuous of that which is foreign, especially of strangers or foreign peoples.

And finally, this quotation from the "-phobia" article at Wikipedia:

One can readily use the suffix -phobia to coin a term that denotes a particular anti-ethnic or anti-demographic sentiment, such as Francophobia. . . . Anti-religious sentiments are expressed in terms such as Christianophobia and Islamophobia.

Obviously, someone being called Francophobic is not accused of being afraid of the French, nor is an Islamophobic person suffering from any irrational fear, or phobia if you will, of Islam or Muslims.

Likewise, "homophobic" does not mean "fear of homosexuals." It means "prejudiced against homosexuals." If you want to get deep with it, you can argue (correctly, I think) that all forms of bigotry originate from irrational fears, but these are not what are referred to as clinical phobias.

So, finally . . . you goddamn twit . . . yes, I said he was homophobic. I did not mean to say he was afraid of gay people in the sense of a clinical -phobia. I meant to say he was prejudiced against gay people. That is what "homophobic" means. That is how the word is used. That's how I was using it. I do not need to prove how he has a fear of homosexuals. That is not what my calling him homophobic meant. You have failed to grasp my meaning, either because you're an asshole or incredibly ignorant.

He responded to a joke about McCain thinking Obama was physically attractive by calling me a fag and a fairy. That was homophobic, meaning it displayed a prejudice against homosexuals.

Do . . . you . . . understand? Should I try this again with fewer syllables? You fucking numbskull.

Newspeak and ad hominem attacks will get you no where. It just shows your level of intelligence.

You're right, intentionally missing the point so you can split hairs over the definition of "homophobia" is a far more impressive demonstration of intelligence.

"You're a towel!"
