The wait is over, the long silence has been broken, and we now finally know who former child star and alleged filmmaker Ron Howard supports in the presidential race.
He's voting for Barack Obama, and he enlisted his former co-stars Andy Griffith(!) and Henry Winker(. . .) to join him in a video shouting it from the mountaintops! Observe below:
Funny, I think. Cute. A little too "aw shucks," but I guess that was the point.
One thing I don't get: The whole premise Howard sets up for himself to explain why he's reprising Opie and Richie Cunningham is that he's "desperate" for Obama to win the election. Is desperation really an appropriate state of mind for an Obama supporter at this point? Caution? Sure. Anxiety? Fuck yes, I'm right there with you. But desperation? Obama's the frontrunner. Barring an unforeseen surge from McCain or a serious fuck-up on Barack's part (like being born in Kenya), he's gonna win this motherfucker.
I don't get the desperation at this point. Obama's not desperate. Putting Sarah Palin on the ticket was a sign of desperation, but last I checked it was John McCain that did that, not Barack.
Your heart's in the right place, and I'm sure it's appreciated at the Obama campaign, but it's a weak excuse for the bit, Ron. If you wanted to go fishing with Andy Griffith, I'm sure all you had to do was call him. He's got the time.
