Something to keep in mind next time you watch Night of the Living Dead
Saturday, October 25th, 2008 | 11:13 pm [barack obama, film, politics, random]
Maybe it’s just that I’ve got this election on the brain.

Watching Night of the Living Dead at Monster Movie Night earlier this evening, Ashley and I had the same thought at almost the same time: Ben (played by Duane Jones) looks and sounds an awful lot like Barack Obama, and Harry Cooper (played by Karl Hardman) bears some resemblance in appearance and demeanor to John McCain. It gave their argument over whether to stay upstairs or go hole up in the cellar a whole new dimension.

“The cellar’s the safest place!”

The cellar’s a death trap!”

“Oh yeah? Well where the hell do you get off raising taxes during an economic crisis?”

“I’m only raising taxes on the top 5% of wage earners! Why can’t the people who can afford it pay a little more, so that the people who can’t afford it can have a break? That’s only fair!”

“Sure, but how are you gonna cut taxes for 95% of the country, anyway? Only 60% of ‘em even pay taxes in the first place!”

“Wait a second. First you jumped on me for raising taxes, now you’re giving me shit over cutting them? It would be nice if you got your story straight, man!”

Just a thought I had.

So you're saying that I should vote for McCain since he was right about the cellar?

No, I'm saying you should vote for Obama because he blows McCain away twice — once as a human, once as a zombie — and survives all the way to the heartless ironic ending.

Plus, Obama would have gotten them out of the house to safety if that dumbass Tom (let's say he's Palin in this analogy, though I'm not sure that really works) hadn't sprayed gasoline all over the truck and set it on fire.
