One thing the internet needs no more of is funny videos. The problem is that most of them are — get this — not funny. Turns out it does take more than a webcam and a copy of Movie Maker to succeed at comedy. Who knew? Nobody told me . . .

Anyway, happily, not among the ranks of unfunny funny videos are those produced by The Onion. With their series of Onion News Network clips, the folks at the Onion have demonstrated their mastery of the understatement, producing subtle, squirm-inducing comedy better than anyone I have seen since Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant were still doing TV.

The latest is this one, where the host of a Hardball-style political panel show starts asking some suspiciously specific questions about American manslaughter laws:
