Neat video, but a few friends recently spoke about this and I had to ask you (either for this series or for "And now the good news...")

steve, have you heard of Kanzi, Koko and other forms of intelligent life? and what do you think of them? - are these really true examples of some other type of sentience? or are these only strongly conditioned responses?

I've heard that some dolphins and the great apes might be considered of high intelligence approaching human-like (many other species show a degree of intelligence). Personally, while these animals display something approaching intelligence, the lack of 'natural/spontaneous' incidence of human-like intelligence in the wild suggests its not probable, or that there are other constraining factors in the rise of intellect.
